I must've missed this? Surprised it hasn't been brought up yet, if true. Someone should ask him about it, I'm surprised he hasn't addressed it yet himself. |

So whats the deal with entry level contracts?
They kick in once they play something like 8 or more games in the AHL or NHL.
How long does that phase last before the entry level automatically starts? 3 or 4 years?

Ok, once again, the Apocalypse is upon us - Nucker not knowing something!
And yes, there was much ado about it the first 3-4 days but then disappeared in subsequent hockey news cycles. People still like to occasionally remind everyone, though |

As long as the player is playing in the CHL the contract slides. Once they become professionals the ELC kicks in. If they play more than 9 NHL games it burns a year of their ELC, even if they get sent back to Junior at that point, and they can't be recalled from Junior until the season is finished.
So Virtanen and McCann can each play two more years of junior hockey before they are eligible to be able to play in the AHL, and their ELC's wouldn't begin until the 2016/17 season. |

Are you serious? This was all over 1040 on draft day.

Yeah, and apparently Shinkaruk could return as an overage player as well, Gaunce too I think, though they are both eligible to play in the AHL due to their age and seasons played in the CHL.
On another note, Reimer re-signs in Toronto. Figured they would have traded him already... |

Very surprising move. Especially given every Toronto fan felt he was coveted and had him going to pretty much every destination |

Great article....always good to have the core part of it out of context.
McCann left an awkward first impression at the draft when he told James Duthie "it is what it is" when asked how it felt to be a Vancouver Canuck—sounding more like Todd Bertuzzi than like Kesler.
The ACTUAL quote
“I never thought I would be a Vancouver Canuck, but it is what it is and I am very excited and very honored to be part of the organization.”
If in anyway that made an awkward first impression or even close to a bad attitude then someone needs to stop writing and change careers. That is why this world is so stupid, someone out there will always tag this kid as "having a bad attitude" for life because they read this garbage and has no intelligence to find out the truth. |

You have to use what they actually said to put quotes around something, otherwise it is called paraphrasing. |

What would it take to get Jaden Schwartz out of St. Louis?

Schwartz looks good.
Guessing you would have to add a high pick too and maybe more...
I would really like to see our prospects like Shinkaruk with the big club before we trade them away. Schwartz looks like he will be a pretty good player, coming off a very good season of 25g and 31a, if he can repeat or better this performance.
I like Hansen, but would just as much like to see his roster spot open up for one of the prospects if they are ready.
If it was just Hansen and Shinkaruk, that would be a great trade for the Canucks. |
